If you’re reading this, it is likely that you’ve seen me write about SQL, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Data Science and the data universe at large. It is easy to look back and say “I write about data”, but that would not be complete. I write about data as an asset for businesses. More and more, making data an asset for businesses requires thinking about transforming data into and managing it like a product.
If you’ve seen me write before, you know I adopt a 5 points style. I try to keep my writing simple and focused. Otherwise I think it is hard to parse. Over time, I’ve realized that I’ve built my own writing into a product of sorts. I’ve had the user in mind and asked myself the question “How do I create maximum impact?”. That focus on impact is why I’ve held off on writing more long form until now. I just didn’t think I had the right segment and focus. I didn’t have the product market fit. I think I’m closer to that now, which is why I’m launching From Data to Product.
Here are 5 commitments I am making by writing here.
I will publish once per week. Deep, thoughtful writing takes time and I cannot possibly do it daily. At the same time, month-long gaps are not helpful for anyone.
I will focus on data as a product. While my writing on LinkedIn explores many different spaces, the content here will be focused. I’ll explore companies, products, frameworks and share great ideas and articles.
I will not write to end conversations. I will write to begin them. I think it is impossible for any one person to have a definitive voice in this space. Particularly now. My value add is (hopefully) to ask good questions, connect to good resources, and continue conversations.
I will not charge a subscription fee for the weekly publication, ever. Over time, I plan to create more specialized content and services that I’ll potentially charge for (if the value is there for the user). But this will stay free. I want learning, not money.
I will do my best to keep up with trends, topics and news. But I have a full time job and am going to school, so please share content/topics you see that are potentially of interest. I’d love to hear from you!
I’m thrilled to get started, and hope you’ll join the journey.
Hey Eric, Please let me know if you need any helping hands with this wonderful initiative
Thanks for your selfless sharing.
